Ramblings

More of the same, or a lot more of nothing.

Which one is it?

I don’t know.

I do know that we had some crazy weather this weekend.  It snowed, yeah. . SNOW in Oregon at the end of April.  What is the world coming too?

I have a midterm coming up in one of my classes, I am not to worried. . though it is kind of annoying.  You would think that there are other ways to test knowledge instead of tests. .   Maybe interviews, or demonstrations of abilities. . why do we always have to do tests?

Frisbee was good this weekend, the Bandits won again.  Oh, our team name is the TP Bandits.  I don’t think we played our best, but we still managed to play well enough for a victory.

I didn’t get to have dinner with my folks this week, we try to have a meal together each week.  Instead, I had some REALLY good food from our kitchen.  (Notice, I didn’t say what I had.  It is not that I want to keep a secret, it is just that I forgot what I ate.)

Now I am back at work.  Lovely, right?

Oh, I did officially sign up for my sailing class.  Soon, some will call me Captain Bob. .  maybe they will call me Skipper.

I found that I have a huge amount of blackberry bushes in my neighborhood.  I look forward to this fall, I figure I will be able to eat a lot of berries!  I discovered these bushes while hanging out with my friends, Geoff and Carley, and their dog Bella.

One last thing.  I posted a picture of myself on hot or not.  Basically, you can rate a person based of their photo between 1 and 10.  Currently I am a 7.2.  Not bad, right?

Keep on Trucking (or Sailing)

I must admit, this term of school is a heck of a lot harder than my last.

I am working on several different projects, each with their own little twist. One project in particular is very difficult. It is hard to work on something when the scope of the project is very large. One project that I am working on is actually pretty cutting edge. I don’t know if the company I am working for would like me to discuss the details. However, I can tell you that it is a very future based product. To make this project (product) viable, there needs to be certain laws. At the moment, those laws don’t exist. There are going to be a lot of assumptions in this project, which makes me wonder how viable our research is going to be.

The other project I am working on revolves around a website. This is a little more up my alley, though the requirements for the site are not. I will have to flex my IT knowledge to pull of some of the final requirements. I don’t know what skills the prof. will teach, so that makes me a little nervous.

Just the other day I had a group meeting for 4 hours! Yeah, that is a long time. We are working our way through the details, but it is all still sort of fuzzy. Aside from the laws and benchmarks we will have to assume, we (as a team) know very little about the market we are researching.

Now, to a more fun aspect.

I am looking at signing up for some sailing classes. Yep, sail a boat on water. (Not my bathtub!) The classes look like a lot fun, and I will keep you posted as I work my way through them. There is going to be one weekend where I will be on the water 1-9 Saturday and Sunday. What do you think, can you see me as a sailor?

Here is my thought. When the world floods from global warming, I will be able to navigate my way around the world looking for dry land. Very “Waterworld”, right? I will have the skills, and they could be in high demand. Until that time happens, I might be able to play on the water for longer period of time. A sail allow you to move without gas! I could sail to Los Angeles, or Sydney for almost free. I just need to worry about food and water. Hum??? Then again, those are pretty far trips. . maybe some other time.

Sailing is also a hobby where you can bond with friends and family, and I am always into that.

Taking the Bus to Work

For those of you who don’t know, I have been taking the bus to work lately.

It actually isn’t that bad.

Really.

Well, parts aren’t that bad.

I can’t complain about the gas savings. Since the weather hasn’t really been nice, it makes it kind of hard to ride my bike. Yeah, I am a sissy.. but a dry and warm one at that. Instead of buying gas every other week I am now going every three to four weeks. This nice little savings goes back to the bank, collects interest, and helps pay for my next video game!

So, aside from the money saved, and I do like money. There have been other benefits. First, I feel as if I am doing something good for the environment. Fewer emissions is good for society, and my community.

Second, I feel very liberated. There is a something I feel when I get off the bus and finish my journey to work that I don’t usually feel. Free. Free of worrying about parking, traffic, gas expenses, idiot drivers, and other annoying things. I almost feel like I am living in an urban environment where I wouldn’t need a car.

The bus system in the morning works very, very well for me. Check it out. I can get picked up just outside my house. The bus takes me to the local station where it becomes a bus that goes across town to the local hospital. The coolest part of all this, the route takes me right by my work.

Now, going home is another story. I don’t feel as liberated. Actually, I don’t feel too good about the way home. I have to stand on the street, watch all these cars pass me. They probably look down at me, wondering. . where is his car?? Or, I wonder what is wrong with him?? He is cute, but since he is riding the bus there must be something going on.

Yeah, I don’t think people look up to bus riders. . rather, I am under the impress that they look down at them.

Anywho, the waiting is the hardest part. Once I get on the bus and I head home, all is well again.  The only real problem is that I have to wait for that special bus in the afternoon.  I can’t go home easily unless I wait for this bus route.

Yeah, it is a draw backs. .  but the savings in money and the other benefits make it worth it.

Eugene Mayor Candidates

Election time is coming up for our next city mayor.

In one camp we have the incumbent, Kitty Piercy. She says that she is the mayor for ALL Eugene. Though, the decesions she has made in the past has not really reflected the belief of many of the voters. In fact, I would go as far to say that she really on represents a small representative area in Eugene. That area, or course, is South Eugene. The people assigned to various city committees are mostly from South Eugene, and the questionable things she has done favor the residents in South Eugene.

If you haven’t already figured out, I am not from South Eugene. I am from the north end of town. The part of down that over the past 10-15 has had the economic growth and development.

Our other major choice is Jim Torrey. This guy was our mayor before Kitty. He left to try some sort of new political venture, but of course since he is back in town it must mean that he failed. I believe he was our mayor for 8 years or so. This means, we can thank many of the issue we have to today because of him. The potholes in the ground didn’t form overnight, it has taken many years for this ‘bad boys’ to form. He says that he will address this problem, well. . why didn’t he address before? I guess potholes weren’t sexy.

Here is another interesting fact. Both campaigns are expected to together spend over two hundred thousand for this posistion.

How much does being the mayor pay? Am I missing something here? Sure, you could say that these people are running for the social benefit of the city, however, I find this argument to be very naive. Were did these thousands of dollars coming from, why would they give so much? There is something going on in the background that we, as voters, don’t see. ‘Special interest’ is an evil word, and their money is even worse.

I would like to think that being the mayor you get free food, and get to engage in interesting activities. These perks are the compensation for the low pay. When I say low, I mean $20,000 specifically.

Would I be a good candidate for mayor? Maybe. But I don’t have the money to run against giants like these two people.

This is yet another example of the rich minority ruling over the poor majority. That is capitalism at work!

Secret Island

Have you ever wondered if there is an mulit-government conspiracy’s?

Do all of the worlds governments know about UFO’s and have all declared to each other that they will not talk about it?

What about other continents, or large countries like New Zealand that have been left off the map??  For the sole purpose of having the land and the resources to themselves.  Think about it, it might actually be.

Where are all of our elected leaders most of the year??  They sure has hell aren’t working.  Congress has more time off than a chimp at the zoo.  The US Supreme Court is usually in recess, and the President says that he is at ‘Camp David’.  (I wonder if they sleep in tents and have large camp fires??  They sing songs and roast marshmallows.)

Now, imagine if there really is this land mass.  It would be in the interests of all nations governments to cover it up.    Maybe this whole Iraq war is not about weapons of mass destruction, but rather who gets what sleeping arangement at the cover-up island.  Bush, and his crony’s, like an ocean view tent.  Sadly, they were all taken a few years ago, Iraq at the best seat in town, so we bombed the hell out of them.

Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, probably visited this place by accident.  Nixon, worrying about the Watergate scandal probably had a brain fart and let Gene hoop a ride with him.  Where else could he come up with futuristic ideas.  They probably had cell phones on this island 50 years ago, someone let the technology slip. . and now we all have them.

I am looking forward to the teleporter technology leak.  It only makes sense.  How could these politicians be everywhere at all times?  Look at Obama’s schedule.  One hour he is here, the next he is across the country there.

Should the teleporter technology leak to the general public, there would be massive national security risks.  Thus, I don’t think we will see this type of transportation system anytime soon.  Oh yeah, this technology would put big oil out of business, and we all know they have their hands all over our politicians.

Okay, lets summarize where we are:  Secret island led to Iraq war, Cell Phones and many other technologies were started there, big oil doesn’t want us to know about other types of transportation, and Nixon and Bush were idiots.  (I added the last part, but we all know it is true.)

You might ask how is this all possible?   Have you ever sailed the high seas??   Probably not.  I’m sure you just looked at a map.  Who made those maps, where did they come from?  History books told us that Franklin hung a kite out side during a storm to test his theory about electricity.  If he did, he would be DEAD!  Newton discovered gravity because of an apple falling on his head??   Look it up, it isn’t true.

Alright. .   Now that I have you convinced.  My next post will be telling you that the world is actually flat.   Don’t laugh.  Just to hear my explanation, and then judge for yourself.

‘The Appeal’ - Book Review

I finished reading “The Appeal” the other day, and I must say that I was a little disappointed by it.

Without ruining the book, as I will not disclose any details, I will try to give my best review of it.

Basically, there is a town where all the residents get cancer.  One member of the community goes to court and gets a huge monetary reward from the jury.  Well, as it goes. .  the company (defendant) appeals it.  And this is where the story begins.

We spend the whole book reading about this appeal.  The story is good, however, the ending is not.

Usually, I can guess the ending of a book before it happens; even there is a huge plot twist.  Not this one.  The ending that should have been, never happened.

Why waste my time writing this review?  Well, I don’t want anyone else to read this book without the prior knowledge that they might be disappointed.  Granted, it wouldn’t have stopped me from reading it, but at least I wouldn’t be let down when I got to the end.
